New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

Project Description

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) implemented an online hunting and fishing license system to replace their manual process. This system was deployed to over 1,800 retail and municipal agents throughout the state of New York.

The system was implemented on desktop Point Of Sale (POS) devices running Windows 2000.

IDA’s Role: IDA was contracted to develop the training documentation for the front end (licensing) of this system.

IDA’s responsibilities for rollout included:

  • Scheduling of over 1,800 sales agents and internal NYSDEC staff for a full day of instructor-led training. This included operating a help desk available for agents to reschedule their classes if they were unable to attend on their assigned date.
  • Setting up over 19 training sites throughout the state and running the training classes at each site
  • Providing four instructors for the 8-week training cycle
  • Training the Help Desk staff on the new system
  • Providing a daily summary to NYSDEC of which agents had attended training at each location
